Menel somewhat freezes when Dernwine asked Eleryn her name. But, very slowly and eeire, she turned her head to look upon Eleryn again. Her hand resting on Ruin's hilt fell foreward slightly and was now gripping it. The flames that separated the two elves danced upon the pile of wood, with sparks and hot embers popping out every now and then. Her shoulders began to move up and down slightly like she was laughing, and indeed she was, silently to herself. She waited on Eleryn's response.

"I am Eleryn." she said simply. No need for rank here. She watched the elf across from her closely, not seeing much. The fire continued to aid in cloaking the stranger.
"And what is your name?" she asked the man, turning to look at him briefly. "It is possible that we have met before."
Eleryn felt the green eyed elf staring at her, and for a split second a thought entered her head. She quickly dismissed it, but it stayed in the back of her mind.

*Dernwine smiles friendly-like, and says "Dernwine of Edoras. Yes, your name sounds familiar... Mirkwood elf... I've traveled through there many times, you always seem to be guarding... you do a very good job at it too, ma'am!"
*Dernwine galnces at Menel, hoping she's not feeling too left out of the conversation. Then she glances down the hill at the horses, all grazing peacefully. Finally deciding she's said enough, Dernwine adjusts her helm and leans back on her elbows, basking in the firelight.

Menel took her pipe out of her mouth and emptied it by tapping it on her boot. As she did this, strands of her hair came out past her hood, but as soon as she leaned back again, it disappeared.
She was glad she wasn't asked her name, however, in case she was, she had been thinking of a fake one she could use....For a while.
She grabbed up her bag and placed the pipe back within it and set it at her side. She drew one of her long knives and began to shapen it, it being the only thing that was heard at the moment.

Eleryn watched the elf began to sharpen her long knife. She looked at Dernwine and smiled. "Do you like Mirkwood then? I am rather fond of Rohan myself."
"I never caught your name," she said to the stranger. "Do you mind if I ask?"
Eleryn took out her canteen and took a drink of the cool water while she waited a reply.

Menel eyed Eleryn and stopped short on sharpening her knife. She rested her hands and said barely, "Andune." She bowed her head as if she went back to looking at her knife while she began to sharpen it, when really, she was watching the two, seeing if they believed her.
She smirked lightly and sheathed her knife. Meanwhile, Sereg had grown tired of grazing. He started back up the hill and returned to his master's side.

*Dernwine observes this quietly, and when menel goes back to sharpening her knife, Dernwine unsheathes her sword too. She pretends to study the emeralds and diamonds in the hilt, and the horses on the blade, but really she is waiting in case anything happens.

Menel, now feeling restless, stood up as Sereg came to her. She leaned down and took a brush from her bag and put it between her knees. She unsaddled Sereg and placed the saddle on top of the boulder and began to brush him down.
He stood quietly, as she began to hum very lightly to him. She made sure that she didn't take sudden strokes, otherwise her hood would fall to her shoulders.

*Dernwine watches, thinking to herself. Ah, the oneness of horse and rider. the care, and trust. I could probably write pages of poetry about it. A slight smile forms on her lips as she watches menel and sereg.

Eleryn sees "Andune"'s horse, and freezes. She may not recognize the elf, but she could recognize that horse anywhere.
"Nice name." she says quietly, not taking her eyes off of the horse. She doesn't move, if she makes a grab for her weapons, she will lose. Besides, this elf hasn't done anything yet. Eleryn tries not to think about all that the elf in front of her has done to Mirkwood, but can't help it

*Dernwine senses the tension between these two, and decides to do a little something. She stands up, even though she is a few inches shorter (Elves are taller than Rohirrim, right?) and begins pacing between them. "Just stretching my legs," she comments, explaining it. She still holds her sword at her side, almost unconsciously (as if she's so used to donig it she's not thinking about it). She hums Eorl's song softly to herself, calming her nerves with the familiar tune.
"Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing..." (et cetera)

Menel moved to Sereg's neck and began to brush out his mane. She took a quick stroke and let her hood fall to her shoulders, though her back was to the two. Enough time had passed to let things settle. She then starting talking over Dernwine, in the Black Speech, to Sereg. His head lowered a bit and she was able to brush the poll of his head (tip top of his head, where the forelock starts to grow). He was so tall that she could not reach it if he didn't.
He began to paw lightly at the ground, wanting to run off again, though with Menel. She whispered to him again in Mordorian and he stood still from now on.

*Dernwine glances at Menel and cringes at the sound of the Black Speech. She grips her sword a little tighter and stops in between Menel and eleryn, and stands staring into the fires, waiting for action.

Eleryn sat and watched her every move, holding back the erge to grab her bow and be rid of them both. She did well though, and managed to just sit silently. After all, she did allow her to share the campfire, only to get information and then finish you off she thought to herself.
She shook her head and tried to think of something else. She watched the fire, turned and looked down at Randir, who was ready to ride off at any minute, looked at the stars, and finally back to the horse and rider in front of her.
Maybe she has changed she thought hopefully. She didn't entirely believe it, but it was something to think about.

Menel smiled lightly to herself, having heard Eleryn's thoughts. Maybe indeed...but I doubt it. She thinks. After brushing out the tangles in Sereg's mane, she turned and tossed the brush back into her bag and sat calmly sat back down against the boulder. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes.
After several minutes, she opened them again and glanced at Eleryn and Dernwine. She watched Dernwine pace a few times, looked back to Eleryn then to the stars. A light sigh escaped her lips as she stared off into the the depths and darkness.
